What Data We Collect

When Visiting the Website

When you visit our website, technical data is automatically collected. This includes: the page accessed, date and time of access, device type and browser version, an anonymised visitor ID and session data. This data is collected via our analytics tool Alchemy Scribe, which runs on our own server (opus.alchemy.zuerich). No data is shared with third-party providers such as Google or Meta.

Additionally, our hosting provider Cloudflare briefly processes technical connection data (e.g. IP addresses) to protect against attacks and ensure availability.

When Subscribing to the Newsletter

When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your name and email address. This data is processed via Alchemy Labs Forms and stored on servers in the EU/Switzerland.

When Contacting Us

When you contact us by email or contact form, we store your message, your name and your email address in order to respond to your enquiry.

Legal Basis

We process personal data on the following grounds:

Analytics and statistics: Legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 31 Para. 1 nDSG (new Swiss Data Protection Act). We use anonymised analytics to improve our website.

Newsletter: Your explicit consent. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Contact requests: Pre-contractual measures or legitimate interest in responding to your enquiry.

Cloudflare security: Legitimate interest in protecting our website against misuse.

Cookies and Tracking

Our website exclusively uses first-party cookies from Alchemy Scribe for anonymised visitor analytics. No third-party cookies are set. There is no cross-site tracking, no advertising cookies and no profiling.

Statistics cookies are active by default (legitimate interest). Personalisation features, where available, require your explicit consent.

Data Processors

We work with the following service providers who process data on our behalf:

Alchemy Zürich (Alchemy Labs): Operation of analytics tool (Scribe) and forms (Forms). Servers in the EU/Switzerland.

Cloudflare, Inc.: Hosting and delivery of the website, DDoS protection. Cloudflare processes connection data according to its own privacy policy. Server locations worldwide, with preference for the nearest data centres.

Emdash CMS: Content management system, operated on Cloudflare D1 (database) and R2 (media).

Data Sharing

We do not sell personal data. Data is only shared with the data processors named above, who are contractually obligated to comply with data protection regulations.

Retention Period

Analytics data (anonymised): maximum 24 months.

Newsletter data: until unsubscription.

Contact requests: until completion of processing, then maximum 12 months.

Server logs (Cloudflare): according to Cloudflare's policies, typically a few days.

Our newsletter is sent only with your explicit consent. You can unsubscribe at any time — either via the link in each email or by sending us a message. After unsubscription, we delete your data promptly.

Your Rights

Under the Swiss Data Protection Act (nDSG) and, where applicable, the EU GDPR, you have the following rights:

Access: You can find out what data we have stored about you.

Rectification: You can request the correction of inaccurate data.

Erasure: You can request the deletion of your data, provided no legal retention obligation exists.

Objection: You can object to the processing of your data.

Data portability: You can receive your data in a commonly used format.
